Hmong Language Heart Health Multimedia

The Heart Health Multimedia programs are available on the Healthy Roads Media Website at, along with one other Hmong language program, Keep your Food Safe. Each of the 12 new programs is available in four formats: web video, written (PDF format), multimedia (pictures with sound), and audio (MP3 format). The multimedia, written, and audio files can be downloaded for use off-line in a variety of ways. For example, the audio files can be used on local radio and the multimedia can be used via a laptop/computer projector system for small group programs. One suggestion is to use multimedia or audio file to start a program, followed by discussion with the audience, or addressing typical questions. All are covered by a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 United States License.

This project represents collaboration between the Hmong Health Education Network/Wausau Area Hmong Mutual Association and Healthy Roads Media. Translation, audio and print handouts were provided by the Hmong association, with multimedia production by Healthy Roads Media. This project was funded with Federal funds from the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services, under Contract No. N01-LM-6-3503 with the University of Illinois at Chicago. Earlier work on this project was funded by the Northern Wisconsin Area Health Education Center with funding from the National Library of Medicine.

We want to thank all our partners who contributed to this work, including Health Information Translations who gave permission for the translation of the heart attack, coronary artery disease, heart failure and stroke documents. The programs represent a bilingual approach to providing health information. The slides are labeled in English, with the accompanying audio in the Green Hmong dialect. The handouts are in three columns: English, Green and White Hmong.

These handouts represent the first 12 topics completed for the forthcoming Hmong Family Health Guide. We will be announcing additional topics as they are posted to this web page, and welcome comments, including translation concerns. Please send to Babs Zehren, Webmaster,
